Located on the Right Bank, the 11th arrondissement is the most densely populated of the 20 arrondissements of Paris, France. It is also the most densely populated urban district in Europe. It is mainly a residential district. A number of trendy cafes, restaurants, nightlife, and a range of boutiques and galleries are found in Bastille and rue du Faubourg St Antoine. Another popular area for nightlife is the Oberkampf to the north. The 11th arrondissement is a lively area bounded by the Place de la Republique to the west. In the east it is joined to the Place de la Bastille by the sweeping, treelined Boulevard Richard Lenoir, with its large markets and children’s parks. The areas around Boulevards Voltaire and Parmentier are livelier whereas the east is more residential with more wholesale commerce.
