One of the second smallest in area after the 2nd arrondissement, the 3rd arrondissement is located on the Right Bank. One of the 20 arrondissements of Paris, France, the oldest surviving private house of Paris, rue de Montmorency which was built in 1407 is situated here. The north part of the medieval district of Le Marais is in the 3rd arrondissement whereas the 4th arrondissement contains the more lively southern part of Le Marais with notably the gay district of Paris. In the medieval priory of Saint-Martin-des-Champs, near the Conservatoire National des Arts et Metiers is an expanding Chinatown inhabited by immigrants from Wenzhou, Mainland China, centers on rue au Maire.
