Gare De Lyon is one of the largest districts of Paris. It is located in the 12th arrondisement of the city. Named after the city of Lyon, the Gare De Lyon is one of the six large railway terminus in Paris, France. Served by the Gare de Lyon metro station, it is a stop for many long-distance trains departing here, most en route to the south of France. Designed by architect Marius Toudoire, the station was built for the World Exposition of 1900. It is famous for its large clock tower atop one corner of the station, in imitation to the clock tower of the UK Houses of Parliament, home to big Ben. The station had the privilege to be comicly featured in Mr. Bean’s Holiday starring Rowan Atkinson. According to history, on 27 June 1988, a runaway train crashed into a stationary rush-hour train, killing 56 people and injuring a further 55. Gare De Lyon is popular tourist destination as it boasts of important landmarks such as Jardin Yitzhak Rabin, Bercy Village, Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy. It is also renowned for museums and galleries.
