Parc des Buttes-Chaumont
Parc des Buttes-Chaumont is the most romantic park in the city which occupies 61 acres (25 hectares) of hilly land in the 19th arrondissement, in the northeastern reaches of Paris. In 1863 it was started as Napoleon III’s plan for green spaces throughout Paris. Carved out of the old quarries and slums, engineers and landscape gardeners are credited for its layout and design. To give a romantic look, it has been outfitted with romantic touches as waterfalls, a grotto, a lake, and a folly- the Temple of Sybil- on top of a cliff with views of Montmartre in the distance. Do not miss the island in the lake with its clifftop views.
